The District of Columbia is one of the most fun, beautiful and historically interesting places to visit in the United States. The area is filled with elegant as well as family-friendly hotels and a wide array of restaurants for any budget. The District of Columbia is a great place to sample foods from a variety of countries. The shopping district boasts high-end retailers, unique boutiques and tourist shops. In addition, there are numerous sidewalk carts where tourists can purchase food and gifts.

However, the reason that most people visit Washington D.C. is to view the government buildings, historical monuments and world-famous museums. Visitors can tour the home of the President, the White House, during certain times of the day. The Supreme Court and the Capitol Building have viewing areas where visitors can see how the United States government works. The Washington Monument is a tall, narrow landmark that offers fabulous views of the city from the top. Walking down the National Mall will bring tourists to the Lincoln Memorial, which is a great place for people to reflect on the dramatic history of the country. Across the river are the Jefferson Memorial and Arlington Cemetery. Arlington Cemetery houses the Eternal Flame as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Museums are plentiful throughout the city. The Smithsonian has numerous museums including the Air and Space Museum, the Museum of American History, the National Portrait Gallery and the Museum of Natural History. Other intriguing museums in D.C. include the International Spy Museum, the Holocaust Museum and the National Postal Museum. Washington D.C. offers activities for people of all ages.
